Debasish Bhattacharyya

(b.1966)’s preferred mediums are wood, mixed media, iron, plaster and clay. Enamelled eyes find a recurring space in his works. Occasionally, geometric forms such as circles and triangles find their way into his artistic expressions. The artist describes his engagement with diversity of forms and structures as akin to the approach of an observant architect with a fear of loss. The artist captures an abstract moment and transforms into universal forms.  

Along with teaching responsibilities, Bhattacharyya continued to examine the various forms within and without through the mediums of sculpture. He has presented works for critical examination at various places & spaces. Also contributed as a member of the Board of Studies to Benaras Hindu University, Visva-Bharati University-Santiniketan, Rabindra Bharati University- Kolkata, Indira Kala Sangeet University-Khairagarh to name a few. He is an alumnus of the Faculty of Fine Arts, M.S. Baroda. He has worked as a lecturer at the same college. His first solo show, “Slightly Out of Coincident,” was held at Jehangir Art gallery, Mumbai(2003).
