Sanat Kar

Born in 1935 at Santiniketan, (West Bengal) Kar acquired his diploma in painting from the Government College of Arts and Crafts in Kolkata in 1955. His noted solo shows include ‘The Lyrical Mudra’, ArtsIndia, New York, (2006); show at Akar Prakar, Kolkata (2006) ‘Retrospective – Bronzes and Prints’, Birla Academy of Art and Culture, Kolkata and Mumbai (2002-03); Shows in Mumbai (1991, 1989, 1985, 1970) and various shows in Kolkata over the years. His Group Exhibitions include ‘Reprise 2011’, Aicon Gallery, New York (2011); ‘The Living Insignia’, Gallery Ensign, New Delhi;  ‘Image and Symbol: Painters Perception’, Aakriti Art Gallery, Kolkata,  ‘The Drawing Lab’, Aicon Gallery, New York; all in 2010 and  ‘The Root of Everything’, Gallery Mementos, Bangalore (2009). His work has been featured in the Festival of India in USA, Japan, Soviet Union, British International Print Biennale, Fourth International Print Show in Poland and Berlin Intergrafik. He was awarded Kala Vibhushan in 1997 and in 1996, bagged the Shiromani Puraskar, Kolkata. In 1993, he received the West Bengal State Lalit Kala Academy Award, Kolkata. In the years 1978, 1984 and 1992, he was awarded by the International Print Exhibition and in 1973, he received the award from All India Fine Arts and Crafts Society (AIFACS), New Delhi.
