Countries from two continents are coinciding, each as inimitable and multifarious as the other. The shared history of heroic resistance and decolonisation has shaped our past. Yet our present is as global as it gets. This exhibition brings together contemporary artistic expressions from Costa Rica, Guatemala, India, Malaysia, Srilanka and Thailand.
Coincidently, the exhibited artworks address the dualities of humans and nature. They are an ode to primordial emotions and communal perseverance. In the broader sense, they are artefacts of the historical present of our collective life. The artists participating are driven by the urge to grow and are distinguished by their preternatural artistic aspirations.
The exhibition aims to bring about effective cultural exchange and the growth of collective spirit. One is able to quickly realise the Multiplicity and originality of these cultures but the similarity in their devotion to tradition and contemporary is truly astonishing. The artworks are able to strike a balance between the contemporary, indigenous idioms and foreign interventions. Spirituality, nature and ecological considerations form the sub-themes of some of the artworks. The artists’ indelible links to their ancestors and nostalgia for the forgotten, ill-fated old world form the artistic foundation of certain works. The exhibited works also respond to the present-day concerns over the urban dweller’s monotonous routine and subsequent conflicts.
